Oblong Leather Punch – Precision Tool for Leatherwork
The oblong punch is designed to create elongated holes (slots) in leather, perfect for the prong of belt buckles or other straps. It ensures clean, precise, and consistent cuts, essential for high-quality finishing in leather goods and saddlery.
Manufacturing and quality
Made from machined and forged solid steel, this punch features a robust construction that provides excellent resistance even under heavy use. Each tool is equipped with a clever internal undercut to facilitate the removal of cut leather, preventing blockages and improving efficiency.
For maximum strength and long service life, our punches are hardened in our own forging workshop, then polished and hand-sharpened. This artisanal craftsmanship ensures a clean, durable cut, even on the thickest or most technical leathers.
Recommended usage
Using this punch requires strong striking force and a stable support to achieve a perfect cut. For optimal results, we recommend:
-
using a suitable mallet, such as our ABS 3.55.50 model, 880 g;
-
a hardwood striking block or an Ertalon plate (type 3.845) to protect the cutting edge;
-
avoiding striking on metal surfaces (e.g., workbench) to preserve the sharpness and longevity of the tool.
Applications
This type of oblong punch is ideal for:
-
making holes for the prong of belt buckles;
-
preparing precise openings for straps or fasteners;
-
achieving clean, consistent cuts in the manufacture or repair of leather items.
